Area Information : The area surrounding the hotel is steeped in history. Just a short distance away lies the giant White Horse of Uffington, cut into the chalk hillside. Dragon Hill, where Saint George is said to have slain the dragon, is also within easy reach. Nearby Uffington Castle is an Iron Age fort dating back to 500 BC. The ancient stone circle of Stonehenge is also an easy drive away. Other attractions in the surrounding region include Highclere Castle, which bears a striking resemblance to the Houses of Parliament, both having been designed by Sir Charles Barry. The Kennet and Avon Canal runs through the town centre, close to the hotel. This delightful towpath runs all the way from London to Bristol, and is open to walkers and cyclists.
